A clinical trial on Multiple Sclerosis is brought to your focus today! 🧐 With the intervention of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (Ad-MSCs) treatment, there is amelioration in the latencies of evoked potentials (EP) recorded among the experimental groups compared to the placebo. Doesn't that sound promising?
Intravenous or Intrathecal? 🤔 Here is a clinical paper that evaluates the safety and efficacy of two of the most common methods of MSC transplantation in patients with active and progressive multiple sclerosis. With significant changes observed in the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and Functional System scores, the results presented in this journal seem to favor MSC-IT over IV.
Another study on Multiple Sclerosis to kickstart our day! ☀️ A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover phase II study was carried out to evaluate the safety and efficacy of MSCs in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. At the 6th month and the end of the study, the result showed a decreasing trend in the mean cumulative number of gadolinium-enhancing lesions (GEL), demonstrating that the immunomodulatory properties of MSCs have a positive effect as an intervention for this disorder. 🤩
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) continue to show promise, not only for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) but also for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In this journal, transplantation of MSCs in patients with MS and ALS demonstrated clinical feasibility, relative safety, and the ability to induce immediate immunomodulatory effects, resulting in increased expression of CD4+ and CD25+ markers.
